This partnership represents a significant step forward in our shared mission to empower military spouses, particularly those pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
About the Partnership
Military spouses face unique challenges, including high rates of unemployment and underemployment, which directly impact their families’ quality of life and service member retention. By joining forces with MSAN, a trailblazing organization dedicated to mentorship and advocacy for military spouses, we’re creating new opportunities for spouses to thrive.
Together, SMSS and MSAN aim to provide:
- Enhanced Peer Support: Leveraging MSAN’s expertise in mentorship to expand SMSS’s networking and support programs.
- Career Development Resources: Collaborating on tools and initiatives to support professional growth for spouses in STEM and other fields.
- Free Toolkit for Military Spouses: Launching in 2025, our co-developed #PeerSupport Toolkit will empower spouses with practical resources for resilience and career success.
This partnership is more than just an initiative; it’s a movement to elevate military spouses by combining SMSS’s STEM-focused programs with MSAN’s mentorship-driven approach.
Join Us for the Live Announcement
To celebrate this milestone, MSAN will host a Facebook Live event on November 18, 2024, at 11:30 AM ET, featuring representatives from both organizations.
During the live event, you’ll hear from:
- Verenice Castillo, CEO of MSAN, who will introduce MSAN’s impactful programs and share the vision for this partnership.
- Michelle Aikman, Executive Director of SMSS, who will provide insights into SMSS’s mission, programs, and how this partnership will support military spouses in STEM.
We’ll also highlight how military spouses can benefit from this collaboration, including:

- Grants and scholarships for STEM education.
- Resources designed to help spouses overcome career challenges.
